"Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure." - Oprah WinfreyPlace a drop of purple dye in a cup, the entire contents may change color. Place that same drop in the ocean, it hardly changes anything. Your mind is the same way. It can either be a cup or the ocean.
Our thoughts and feelings directly affect us. They can completely consume us and alter our entire experience. If we create enough mental space, our thoughts can merely be a part of our experience that we can notice, sit with, and then release.
We can allow the momentum of anger from the morning to snowball into the afternoon and evening. Or we can recognize it, feel it, then let it go. We can obsess over everything we think we did wrong or want to do differently, or we can recognize the stress and worry, move beyond them, and then decide to see things from a different perspective.
Just for today if your mind gets bogged down with overwhelming thoughts, ask yourself: What can I do to create some space? Then do it: Take a walk in nature, practice deep breathing, or close your eyes and sit in stillness.
