Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal

"I have a secret. I see dead people." - Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense)

James, John, and I have become obsessed with the reality tv show pictured above. For those of you who haven't seen it, lemmetellya... it's like Poltergeist meets Degrassi High. These kids, usually 2 or 3 an episode, are chosen to go on a weekend retreat at some haunted building. First we learn the history of the place and what paranormal activity has been seen there. Then these kids, walk through it and see spirits, and hear voices, and feel creepiness while unfolding the story of the place. Sometimes these kids get really freaked out by it all. Sometimes they cry. But every single time, they let go of it all and just let things be.

Therapists and other psychics come into the show and speak with family members. Almost always, the family isn't very accepting of these kids. Some feel ashamed, skeptical, and confused. The kids feel unloved, ridiculed, and misunderstood by everyone around them. It becomes so emotional that sometimes I find myself crying.

I told my roommates that being a psychic kid and being gay is like the same thing.

John laughed.

James agreed.
