"Oh my God... where are we?" was the first thing I said to John as we peered into an office space surrounded by ancient wooden Chinese walls. We were at Primitive (130 N Jefferson) for Therese Rowley's Conscious Business Network event. Walking through the halls of Primitive is like walking through time, surrounded by ancient artifiacts, statues, and architecture. "This place is like a museum, but everything's for sale" John whispered as we stepped into The Buddha Room, an enclosed space which held several buddhas, Ganeshes, an elaborate shrine, and ancient paintings done by buddhist monks.

The energy at Primitive is like nothing I had ever experienced. Every corner we turned brought on a sea of "whoa's" and "holy cow's" from the people around me. Who knew that when I stepped into this 4-story building in the heart of Streeterville, I was about to experience something life-changing...

Glen Joffe, owner of Primitive, spoke to us about the life of Ani Choying Drolma. She is a buddhist nun who travels around the world and performs her music for charity. "She is a living version of Mother Theresa. How can a woman with nothing, give so much?" Joffe asks the attentive networkers. A concert sponsored by the Napelese government is set to be held at Primitive next week Friday. Seating is limited. An RSVP is required.

Aside from the surroundings and being invited to what may very well be the greatest concert I will ever attend, I met some incredible individuals that evening. Therese Rowley was right, I fell in love with each one of them. Before the night was over, we were all invited to write our wishes on cards addressed to ourselves. These cards would then be sent to Buddhist monks in Nepal where they would pray over our wishes and send them back when finished. At the end of the event, we were led back into the Buddha room for a closing meditation.

How could this night be more perfect? It couldn't; whatwith the energy and spirit of Primitive to hold us together. Primitive is without question, one of the most sacred galleries in all of Chicago. If you are travelling from out of town or live in the city, you MUST take a trip to Primitive. Get lost in the halls of ancient India, bask in the beauty of authentic Chinese jewelry, and meditate in the room of the buddhas. Ask to send a wish to the buddhist monks; you never know what dreams may come true. That night... I felt as if anything was possible.
