Living Your Passion - Jenn Gibbons

I joined The Chicago Rowing Union (CRU) last year, and becuase of it I have met some pretty amazing people. Coach Jenn Gibbons is no exception. In recognition of her achievements as the Founder of Recovery On Water (ROW), Jenn was recognized in November 2009 as the Athena Foundation Chicago Young Professional Award Recipient, and in 2010 she received Today’s Chicago Woman’s INSPIRED Award. Jenn and ROW have been recognized by Make It Better Newsletter, Gapers Block, NBC 5, Chicago Public Radio and the Chicago Tribune.


Her organization, Recovery On Water (ROW), is a Chicago-based non-profit that strives to raise awareness for the benefits of exercise in the fight against cancer.

Breast cancer survivors who exercise regularly can reduce their risk of cancer recurrence by 50%.


ROW helps cancer survivors build a support network of individuals while maintaing a regular exercise routine. Over 50 members ranging from 29 to 64 years old exercise on rowing machines in an environment where they can share their anxieties, express their health concerns, and learn to thrive as survivors of breast cancer. They train 3 days a week and compete in regattas throughout the Midwest. Most importantly, ROW has made a positive impact on the lives of its members. The women of ROW are strong, fearless, and ready to fight cancer with every stroke.
Jenn Gibbons lives her passion on a daily basis. Her motivation to accomplish her goals is infectious. What's next for this amazing rower?
